Wine Review: This ruby red colored Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge from Chateau La Nerthe opens with a blackberry and cherry bouquet with hints of old leather and violets. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, smooth, approachable, and easy to drink. The flavor profile is a black tea and plum blend with notes of mild black raspberry and graphite. I also detected hints of tobacco and soft black licorice. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and moderate polished tannins are nicely sustained. I would pair this CDP with sauteed veal medallions with a brown butter mushroom sauce. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Red garnet with purple tints. This elegant and balanced wine offers notes of ripe cherries, strawberries, and herbs. The tannins are supple and silky, and the finish is long with minty and peppery notes. A wine with cellaring potential of a decade or more.
Food Pairing: Steak, lamb, and grilled duck.
