Wine Review: 91.This clear and straw-colored Chardonnay from Stags Leap Winery opens with a grilled pineapple and nectarine bouquet with hints of oak and faint banana. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and very approachable. The flavor profile is a bartlett pear and butter blend with notes of mild red apple and integrated oak. I also detected hints of pineapple, white pepper, minerality, and herbal tea. The finish is dry, and its flavors and acidity drift away nicely. This Chard is Theresa endorsed and we would pair it with scallop and lobster cream sauce stuffed mushrooms topped with Swiss cheese. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: Boasting a glorious shimmering golden hue, with bright and lively aromatic notes of lemon crème, white pineapple, and melon. Delicate citrus blossoms and magnolia flowers add a floral elegance on the nose. The ripe and full palate offers flavors of Golden Delicious apples, Asian pear, and lemon curd. Spiced oak notes of vanilla, brioche toast, and ginger complement the fruit, while exotic floral notes provide a lovely perfume. Full-bodied with a creamy texture, the finish is long and satisfying, highlighted by hints of lychee and a beautiful mineral character.

Winemaker Interview Series – Brian Pruett – Dry Creek Vineyard – Feb 2026

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, we interviewed Brian Pruett. Brian is the winemaker at Dry Creek Vineyard. We covered eight wines during the visit. We started with Chenin Blanc and a single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, both from the 2024 vintage. Then we tried three single-vineyard and one historic-field-blend Zinfandel from the 2022 vintage. As you will recall, we really liked 2022 as a Zinfandel vintage. Finally, we wrapped up with their 2021 Red Blend and their flagship Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2022 vintage. It was a great tasting and a lot of fun. In this post, you can learn what we learned about Brian and the history of the winery and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines. Then we tried two AVA focused Pinot Noir from 2023 and followed that up with two single vineyard 2023 Pinot Noirs. We concluded the tasting with a mini-vertical of 2022 and 2023 vintage Pinots from Volnay and Beaune. It was a terrific and very interesting portfolio tasting.
