Wine Review: This brilliant, medium ruby colored Chilean Pinot Noir displays aromas of campfire, forest floor, blackberry, and clove. It is delicate and racy, with a medium-minus body and medium-plus acidity. I found it to be energetic with a smooth mouthfeel. There are flavors of cranberry, red raspberry, flint, soil, and oak with a note of spicy clove. Faint, light tannins in the dry moderate finish. This wine improves with some air, so decant and serve with mushroom crostini. - Mark

Winemaker Notes: Expressive aromas of raspberries, red cherries, and strawberries. A delicate and fresh wine with balanced tannins and a silky mouthfeel. It stands out for its structure, generous mouthfeel, and deep fruit profile. Acidity is moderate yet well balanced. It expresses the vintage's identity with elegance, concentration, and character.

The fall is a perfect time to plan a visit to Virginia Wine country. Ken and the KWG Tasting Panel have been covering the winning wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup for years. On Thursday, May 28, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview Jeff Gaffner again. Jeff is the winemaker and owner of Saxon Brown Wines. During the interview, we covered four single-vineyard 2023 Chardonnays, three Pinot Noirs, a cuvee, and two single-vineyard offerings, also from the 2023 vintage. We wrapped up the tasting with a 2023 Zinfandel.
