Wine Review: This clear and pale straw-colored Chardonnay from AXR opens with a lemon tea and Anjou pear bouquet with hints of grapefruit pith and a faint touch of butter. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and expressive. The flavor profile is a bosc pear and lemon verbena blend with notes of grapefruit pith and white tea. We also detected a touch of vanilla. The finish is dry, and its flavors and acidity drift away nicely. We would pair this versatile and fresh Chard with seared scallops. Enjoy - Ken & Stuart
Winemaker Notes: Ganzin is a reference to Victor Ganzin who is credited with the hybridization of the AxR1 rootstock. The axr rootstock was the origin of the research which gave vintners an understanding of the influence of a rootstock on wine and a vines capacity to adapt to the soil. Paying homage to traditional winemaking with a modern twist, our 2023 vintage is 100% barrel fermented and is aged in 25% new French oak to respect the fragile profile of the Burgundy clones that we use. On the rim it is a brilliant, shiny daffodil with touches of sandcastle on the rim. It displays a strong nose of bread, yellow cherry, lemon and grapefruit with cedar, limestone, granite, and apricot. On the palate, its mineral entrance is evolving on a round but layered mid-palate of crushed rocks, lemon and grapefruit, lingering on limestone and peaches.
