Wine Review: I have very high expectations for wines over $50. The 2004 Caymus met those expectations at a recent dinner I attended. This rich purple wine opens with a big bouquet that exhibits hints of cassis and dark berries. There is a touch of heat as well. On the palate, this full bodied wine is rich, concentrated, and maintains its fruit forward cassis and berry flavors. This wine went very well with the NY strip steaks and the veal chops that our guests had ordered. On the finish the wine was dry, very extended and had some young wine tannins. The wine could benefit from a little time in the cellar. Overall the wine was a terrific complement to our meal and enjoyed by all. – Ken

Winemaker Notes: A burst of black fruit aromas, the essence of perfect summer berries. Sweet, ripe blackberry flavors with an undertone of mocha and toasted oak. Balancing acidity and a fine, chalky texture carry the wine through to an exceptionally long finish, with no falling off of the rich fruit flavors. From first sip to last, nothing is missing as the wine crosses the palate.
