Wine Review: This very dark ruby colored Tannat and Petit Verdot based blend from Virgina opens with a chocolate and violet bouquet with hints of cedar sawdust and currant. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, very smooth and a little dense. The flavor profile is tasty mild blackberry and graphite blend with notes of oak and blueberry. We also detected hints of currant and chocolate. The finish is dry and its flavors, acidity, and well-managed refined tannins. A little decanting in the near term brings out this wine’s nuances. After that aeration, we would pair this very approachable and food friendly red blend with filet mignon. Enjoy - Ken & Mark
Winemaker Notes: The 2021 Aldie Heights Cuvée represents the culmination of years of dedication to our craft. With its bold structure and layered complexity, this wine is a true reflection of Virginia’s potential, and I’m incredibly proud of how it captures the essence of our vineyard. It displays black currant and cedar on the nose. The palate is bold and rich with exuberant black fruit, dark chocolate, cedar, and graphite character. This wine is highly drinkable now and can also be laid down for years to come.
