Wine Review: This dark garnet colored Merlot and Petit Verdot based blend from Lady Vineyards in Virginia opens with a black cherry and mocha bouquet with hints of stony minerality and faint tobacco leaf. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, smooth, and seamless. The flavor profile is a black currant and graphite blend with notes of black tea and licorice. I also detected hints of black cherry, and cocoa. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and moderate dusty tannins are nicely sustained. I would pair this Virginia Meritage with a Brazilian picanha steak. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: This "Right Bank" style Bordeaux blend is such a flirt! The regal violet hue has an aromatic bouquet of crushed raspberry, dried sage, and wild violets. On the palate, the plush Merlot creates a luxurious, velvety mouthfeel layered with black cherry and sandalwood. Cabernet Franc adds the elegant lift, while Petit Verdot provides a sophisticated structural depth. The experience concludes with a touch of slate-like minerality and a polished, cocoa-dusted finish that is both powerful and remarkably graceful. Pair with pan-seared duck breast topped with a dark cherry reduction and a wild mushroom risotto infused with fresh thyme.
