Wine Review: This lovely golden yellow Chardonnay from the Santa Maria Valley had an interesting bouquet of lemon, pear, roasted nuts, smoke and spice. It was medium to full bodied and a bit creamy with moderate acidity. It displayed complex flavors of grapefruit, nectarine, smoke, oak and brioche that drifted into a long finish. Some mineral and citrus notes also showed up towards the end. I would pair this very good Chard with grilled salmon with lemon dill sauce. – Mark

Winemaker Notes: Ripe fruit, floral and spice aromas dominate the nose of the 2015 Benchbreak Chardonnay. Pink grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, white peach, citrus blossom, and apple flavors are balanced by a bit of wet stone, subtle oak spice and bright acid. This combination results in a fruity, yet savory sensation in the mouth. Try our Benchbreak Chardonnay with shellfish, especially cracked crab withdrawn butter and scallop dishes, or with poultry such as roasted or grilled chicken.
