Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Late Harvest Zinfandel from Carol Shelton opens with a boysenberry and shoe leather bouquet with hints of plump raisin and Luxardo cherry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and easy to drink. The flavor profile is a Luxardo cherry and cinnamon blend with notes of stewed black plum. We also detected hints of raisin, graphite and dates. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and gentle tannins drift away nicely. We would pair this Late Harvest Zinfandel with stuffed dates with goat cheese or a chocolate raspberry cake. Winemaker Notes: Inky blue-purple in color, yummy deep razz-blackberry jam and luscious dark chocolate of oak spices, sweet and pleasingly balanced with a bit of tart freshness and warm vanilla on the finish.
