Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Zinfandel from Caymus opens with a boysenberry and cherry-cola bouquet with hints of cranberry, pine resin, and black plum. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, smooth, lush, and nicely coats your mouth. The flavor profile is stewed black plum, milk chocolate, and boysenberry blend with notes of Earl grey tea and pomegranate. We also detected hints of red cherry, white pepper, subtle graphite, and mild oak. The finish is dry, and its well-managed moderate polished tannins are nicely extended. The Tasting Panel would pair this Zin with Jiko’s grilled wild boar tenderloin or a rack of St. Louis style ribs. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: Although Caymus is best known for Cabernet Sauvignon, we also produce a small amount of Zinfandel, which was a favorite of late Caymus co-founder Charlie Wagner Sr. It is a varietal that can produce amazing wines here in Napa Valley, and our full-bodied version is perfect for rich foods and hearty cheeses, but also enjoyed with pizza and BBQ.
