Wine Review: We recently conducted a retrospective tasting of older very high-end Bordeaux offerings. This offering from Pontet-Canet is still very impressive after 17 years! This wine was cloudy and dark garnet colored. It opened with a mild cedar and blueberry bouquet with hints of black cherry and cassis. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, smooth, and seamless. The flavor profile is tasty black plum and graphite blend with notes of loam and oak. I also detected some hints of minerality in the mix. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and its moderate dusty tannins linger and last for quite some time. I would pair this Bordeaux gem from Pauillac with New York strip steak. Enjoy - Ken (Tasted on 8/23/25)
Winemaker Notes: A dark crimson color, the wine has an exceptionally complex nose on which black currant and blackberry aromas combine with graphite notes and a floral touch of violet that brings additional elegance. The attack is powerful and restrained, while the long and highly refined tannic structure is set off by a refreshing acidity. Amazingly harmonious!
