Wine Review: The 2014 DeMorgenzon DMZ Syrah is ink red in color and opens with an expressive blackberry, plum and cedar bouquet. I also detected hints of black pepper and herbs. This medium bodied Syrah from South Africa is smooth and juicy. The flavor profile is slightly tart black cherries and light oak with hints of cinnamon and spices. The tannins were balanced and the finish was dry with a tingling of black pepper on the tip of the tongue as the finish faded away. DMZ is a good value Syrah and I would pair it with a pot roast. - Joe

Winemaker Notes: DMZ is DeMorgenzon's value label, where the objective is to produce classic, elegant, well-balanced wines which over-deliver in terms of quality for price. This wine displays a deep, purple core with rich, berry fruit on the nose and lots of ripe, red plum and hints of white pepper. Some floral notes remain in the background, including violets, lavender and spring blossoms. A full palate, with tremendous youthful vigor, layers of berry fruit with developing spices and vanilla linger. A gentle oak integration shows and supports the elegance and roundness of the wine.
