Wine Review: This charming and fresh French Syrah from the Rhone region is a clear medium ruby color. The bouquet evolves and softens in the glass and includes aromas of red cherry, strawberry, forest floor, violets, and chocolate. On the palate, it has a medium body, moderate acidity, and good concentration. It is pleasantly layered, with a supple and smooth mouthfeel. I found flavors of red plum, tar, red cherry, oak, licorice and stony minerality with hints of herbs de Provence, almonds, and tobacco. Fine tannins linger in the dry and polished finish. Winemaker Notes: This medium-bodied Crozes-Hermitage Rouge derives from vines that are nearly 35 years of age. The palate is fresh with dark fruit, yet earthy and charmingly rustic in nature. Notes of spice and graphite emerge, compliments of its aging habitat—a combination of cement and barrel.
