Wine Review: This very deep ruby colored Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast starts off as a rather exuberant and a big boy Pinot Noir. It opens with a clove, black raspberry and pomegranate bouquet with hints of stewed plum and cola. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied, balanced, rich, lush and juicy. The flavor profile is a black raspberry and stewed plum blend with notes of black cherry and craisin. I also detected hints of dried herbs, cola and clove interwoven into the blend. The finish is dry and its fruit flavors and medium tannins slow nice length. This Pinot did benefit a lot from being open for about an hour. At that time, it settled down and rounded out nicely. So, after decanting, I would pair it with a pan-seared duck breast. The long-term aging potential of this Pinot is solid, as on day two it was smooth as silk. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: Our 2018 Deviate showcases its sites perfectly, with robust aromas and structure carrying elegant and juicy fruit. Right away, the rich deep color lets you know you’re in for a striking and intense wine. The nose leads with wild berry preserves cloaked in cigar box spice and a little mushroom earthiness. Velvety and enveloping flavors of black cherry and black raspberries are carried on fresh acidity, keeping the wine lively through the decadence. Toffee and caramel kiss the bright and long finish. The solid structure and wonderful balance will lend the wine to beautiful aging. Go with dining partners on the richer side, and those that match the earthy qualities of the wine, like braised pork with mushrooms or herb-rubbed game birds.
