Wine Review: This very pale straw-colored Riesling from Fritz Haag is supposed to be off-dry styled, however I found it to be more on the dry side. It opens with a dried pineapple and gentle grapefruit bouquet with hints of peach pit, cantaloupe, and lime. On the palate, this wine is light bodied with bright plus acidity. The mouthfeel is dry, fresh, crisp, and mouthwatering. The flavor profile is a complex blend chalky minerality and lemon-lime with notes of grapefruit, ginger, and saline. I also detected hints of white pepper, quince, and orange zest. The finish remains dry and quite refreshing. This Riesling would be a very nice compliment to oysters and perfect for serving slightly chilled on the beach this summer. Enjoy – Ken

Winemaker Notes: The Fritz Haag Estate Riesling is harvested from steep, slate-soil vineyards in the winery's home village of Brauneberg and in the neighboring village of Mühlheim. It is made in a slightly off-dry style (called "feinherb" in German) that perfectly balances its fine peach and citrus fruit with the typically brisk acidity of Riesling grown in this cool-climate region. This makes it a very refreshing choice to serve as an aperitif, with salty appetizers, or as a partner for lighter vegetable dishes.
