Wine Review: This dark garnet colored Lagrein from Granite Heights Winery is very good! It opens with a blackberry and violet bouquet with hints of black cherry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, smooth, rich, and fresh. The flavor profile is a blackberry jam and ripe black cherry blend with notes of blueberry and Australian soft black licorice. I also detected hints of black pepper and elderberries. The finish is dry, and its flavors, bright acidity, and well-managed moderate tannins are very nicely extended. I would pair this terrific Lagrein from Virginia with Jiko’s wild boar tenderloin.
