Wine Review: This opaque and dark purple colored Petite Sirah from Hearst Ranch opens with a blackberry and black licorice bouquet with a hint of oak. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, slightly acidic and a little juicy. The flavor profile is a blackberry and espresso blend with notes of oak and 80% dark cocoa. I also detected hints of black plum and black licorice towards the end. The finish is dry and its flavors linger longer than its mild tannins. This is not your typical brooding and tannic Petite Sirah. This offering is thinner and juicier than most. I would pair with a strawberry-blue cheese steak salad. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: Our 2015 Estate-grown "Pergola" Petite Sirah is an elegant expression of this varietal's potential. It is a vibrant, ruby color with aromatics that are dominated by cherry kirsch and raspberries, with underpinnings of vanilla and violet. The flavors follow with richly concentrated blackberry, Baker's chocolate and lovely earth tones. The wine's velvety weight is contrasted and brought dimension through the bright acidity that is most evident in the mid-palate. Medium and well-defined tannins give the 2015 Pergola a long and lingering finish.
