Wine Review: This deep purple colored Cabernet Sauvignon opens with black currant and dried black cherry bouquet with hints of oak and black raspberry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium acidity. The mouthfeel is smooth and silky. The flavor profile is graphite influenced black currant with notes of acai berry and black raspberry. We also detected hints of black tea, clove, and nutmeg. The finish is dry and its dusty pronounced tannins. The Panel would pair this youthful Cab with a porterhouse steak or short ribs. Winemaker Notes: Our 2018 Hewitt Cabernet Sauvignon is structured, solid, and rich, with layers of depth and complexity. A deep crimson, cranberry red, shimmering color, with vibrant aromas and flavors of intense black cherry, black currant, blackberry, and pomegranate invite you to sip, savor and indulge. All the fruit is supported by notes of hazelnut, crème brûlée, cinnamon, clove, allspice, and delicate Szechuan peppercorn, from the well-integrated oak character. Multi-layered and dense on the palate, you’ll find ripe, macerated dark berry fruits alongside perfumed violets, finishing with a mouthwatering freshness and a focused persistence. The finish is long, generous, and alluring, with chewy tannins, and just a hint of black licorice and graphite. Incredibly drinkable now but also age worthy, this is a wine that truly exemplifies both the personality of Hewitt Vineyard and the remarkable 2018 vintage. Hewitt Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted to be cellar-worthy, however, if you can’t wait to enjoy a glass, we recommend decanting to allow the fullest expression to evolve and reveal itself within the glass.
