Wine Review: This very dark ruby colored Syrah from J. Lohr opens with a boysenberry and black licorice bouquet with a hint of loam. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel nicely balanced and super smooth. The flavor profile is juicy black plum and black licorice blend with notes of flinty minerality and blackberry. I also detected hints of black pepper and Earl Grey tea. The finish is dry and its flavors, mild tannins, and acidity drift away nicely. I would pair this good value Syrah with your favorite juicy burger combination. Enjoy – Ken

Winemaker Notes: The 2020 J. Lohr South Ridge Syrah displays varietal aromas of black cherry and fresh blueberry, accented by black tea, bergamot, and lilac. The juicy yet spicy structure of this Northern Rhône cultivar is lengthened and lifted by the inclusion of Grenache and Viognier. Pair with a slow-roasted pork shoulder and herbed potatoes. For simple, casual fare, try a classic BLT.
