Wine Review: This opaque and deep purple colored Tannat from Jefferson Vineyards is terrific! It opens with a mild black currant and cardamom bouquet with a touch of Australian soft black licorice. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, polished, lush, and rich. The flavor profile is an extracted blackberry and black licorice blend with notes of cocoa, blueberry, and cardamom. I also detected hints of spice drops, Dr. Pepper, and black pepper. The finish is dry, and its flavors, tingly acidity, and moderate duty tannins build-up and linger nicely. I would pair this Tannat from Virginia with braised short ribs or burnt ends. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Heavy on the oak with notes of ripe plum on both the nose and palate. Nearly two years of barrel aging softened the sandy tannins on this wine, which finishes with lingering softness and complexity. Pair with heavier cuts of beef as well as chocolate-based desserts.
