Wine Review: This deep garnet colored Syrah based wine from Marietta opens with a beef stick and black olive bouquet with hints of licorice and black plum. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is initially zesty and savory. However, with some aeration, this wine becomes nicely balanced, very smooth, and seamless. The flavor profile is a black licorice and black olive blend with notes of graphite and marionberry. I also detected hints of loam, black raspberry tea, and smoky oak. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and refined mild tannins drift away nicely. As I mentioned, this wine benefits from aeration. So, I would decant it for a while in the near term before serving it. I would pair this Syrah based red wine with veal medallions with a mushroom and marsala sauce. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: The 2022 Christo is a gorgeous blend of Syrah, Grenache, Petite Sirah, and Viognier. This wine is a fruit forward, juicy expression that tells you it is ripe with punchy, sunny aromas. Under the vibrance is a tobacco leaf, dried herb expression of spice. With acid and freshness giving pucker power the mouthfeel settles into a long, broad stretch of velvet. Might induce visions of the spray of orange zest, drip of ripe plum, chew of black licorice, dark twist of molasses. Enjoy!
