Wine Review: This slightly cloudy and ruby colored Carignan from Martha Stoumen opens with a saddle leather and pomegranate bouquet with hints of boysenberry jam and wet clay. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, bright, fresh, and clean. The flavor profile is cedar influenced red licorice and tart cherry blend with notes of Kalamata olive and pomegranate. We also detected hints of red plum and black tea. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity and moderate dusty tannins that drift away nicely. In a blind tasting this wine could be mistaken for an old school Italian wine. That said, we would pair this Carignan with a salmon burger or with lamb lollipops. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: Attune to your instincts and feast with your nose. This wine emerged from an extended 25-day maceration to greet you with transcendent aromas of California chaparral and dark purple plum. Bask in the gentle charisma of Venturi Vineyard's distinct dusty tannin.
