Wine Review: This slight cloudy and dark red colored Zinfandel based blend from Martha Stoumen is intended to be served chilled, so that is how I covered it. It opens with a fragrant black raspberry and wild strawberry bouquet with hints of green tea and black plum. On the palate, this wine is light plus bodied with integrated plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, bright, and fresh. The flavor profile is mild black plum and Bazooka bubble gum blend with notes of saline and light mixed berries. I also detected hints of green tea and a twist of lime at the very end. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and very refined dusty tannins fade away nicely. I would serve this chillable and refreshing red blend to friends at the beach on a warm summer day. Enjoy - Ken

Like an avocado, the window is small between unripe and overripe for Zin, and I watch our Zinfandel vineyards closely. Carignan, Zin’s less celebrated companion, provides a savory component. I’m not re-inventing the wheel with this classic old vine Zin/Carignan blend, just lightening things up a bit.
