Wine Review: This pitch black colored Montepulciano d’Abruzzo from Massciarelli is a big boy wine. It opens with an old oak and mild prune like bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced, rather savory and quite fruit forward for a wine this old. The flavor profile is a black olive, oak and black currant blend with notes of black tea. I also detected hints of black licorice and a touch of prune towards the end. The finish is super dry and tannins build-up and stick around for quite some time. This wine needs a fatty meal and cigar. I would pair it with a slow cooked rib roast. Enjoy – Ken
