Wine Review: This opaque and very dark purple colored Malbec is one of the best North American Malbecs that I have covered recently. It opens with a fragrant blackberry jam bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, slightly acidic and rich. The flavor profile is a very tasty concentrated wild blueberry jam with hints of pomegranate and black pepper. The finish is dry and its fruit flavors and moderate tannins are nicely prolonged. I really enjoyed this Malbec. I would pair it with braised Colorado lamb chops or bow tie smothered with wild boar ragu. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: Typical of many of the wines from 2009, our Malbec is a riper, rounder version of the previous vintage. Aromas of ripe strawberries, cherry pie and white pepper are complimented with hints of earth and fragrant herbs. The wine is fresh and vibrant on the front palate with loads of red fruit, yielding to Eastern spices and rich oak flavors on the back palate. The mid palate tannins are velvety and round, giving the wine a lush mouth feel. This wine finishes with balanced acidity, making it a dynamic food wine. Though it is more than enjoyable now, the 2009 Rockpile Malbec will age gracefully for the next six to seven years.
