Wine Review: This slightly cloudy and ruby colored Zinfandel from Mauritson’s Rockpile label opens with a gentle red raspberry and mild oak bouquet with hints of graphite. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, smooth, and supple. The flavor profile is mild black plum and black cherry blend with notes of stony minerality and black tea. We also detected hints of old oak and black pepper. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and its dusty tannins build-up for a bit and then stick around for quite some time. We would decant this Zin for a little while before pairing it with braised short ribs or a pub-styled Guiness beef pie. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: Our 2022 Rockpile Ridge Vineyard Zinfandel exudes rich aromas of warm baked blackberry cobbler, black fig drizzled in balsamic, crushed sassafras and sweet earthen spice with lingering notes of cola berry. The entry is driven by ripe juicy dark fruits, a firm core of mountain tannins and lingering flavors of spice. This Zinfandel will be even more fabulous with 1-2 hours of aeration. Enjoy over the next 10-12 years.
