Wine Review: This dark red colored Sangiovese from Mazzei is impressive. It opens with an inviting cedar and moist pipe tobacco bouquet with hints of plum and oregano. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, nicely balanced and smooth. The flavor profile is a red plum and oregano blend with nicely integrated flinty minerality and notes of black cherry. I also detected faint hints of cedar and black tea in the aftertaste. The finish is dry and its flavors and fine tannins drift away nicely. This elegant Chianti Classico Gran Selezione would pair very nicely with pappardelle with veal ragù. Enjoy – Ken

Winemaker Notes: Deep ruby red in color. On the nose, complex aromas with notes of wild flowers, fresh black cherries, licorice, and a hint of vanilla. Well-structured palate, with fine tannins, firm acidity and a smooth, elegant finish.
