Wine Review: This clear and ruby colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Mazzei opens with a cedar and black raspberry bouquet with hints of black currant. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated plus acidity. The mouthfeel is round and zesty with some nice tension. The flavor profile is a cedar infused blackberry and black licorice blend with notes of black raspberry, stone dust, and tobacco. I also detected hints of oolong tea and red plum. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity and moderate dusty tannins linger and last for a while. I would pair this Cab with grandma's lasagna. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: This wine is dedicated to Philip Mazzei (1730-1816), an illustrious ancestor of the family, political thinker, American Patriot, and pioneer, together with Thomas Jefferson, of the viticulture in Virginia. Made with a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon selected from our estates, Philip is the quintessence of Tuscany. Full, ripe, and intriguing body, and long taste with pleasant and fresh aftertaste. Pair with game stews, aged and blue cheese, or with spicy food.
