Wine Review: This medium ruby colored Mataro opens with a fragrant red plum and red currant bouquet with hints of rose petal and smoked meat stick. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. Lively and juicy. This flavor profile is stewed red plum, craisin, and red currant blend with notes of black pepper and cedar. We also detected hints of salami and boysenberry. The finish is dry and its acidity, flavors, and gentle tannins drift away nicely. The Panel would pair this Mataro with a charcuterie platter. Winemaker Notes: The 2019 Mataro has an aroma that is redolent of sweet red cherries, with hints of bay leaf and wood smoke. There is dollop of vanilla and caramel from the new (25%) French oak that adds roundness and depth to the bouquet. In the mouth the wine is bright, rich and red fruit driven with all the suppleness that one would expect from own roots vines in such sandy soils.
