Wine Review: This slightly opaque and deep purple colored Mataro opens with a fragrant black currant and black raspberry bouquet with hints of smoked meat and tar. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is smooth and savory. The flavor profile is stewed black plum and cured meat blend with notes cassis, black pepper, and cocoa. We also detected hints of black olive and faint cedar. The finish is dry, and its savory moderate tannins are well-managed. The Tasting Panel would pair this rustic styled Mataro with braised short ribs, slow cooked beef brisket or a charcuterie platter.
