Wine Review: This slightly cloudy and medium ruby colored Nero d'Avola based blend from Sicily opens with a smoky oak, moist pipe tobacco and black licorice bouquet with a hint of black plum and cured meat in the background. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium+ acidity. We also found it to be fresh and juicy. The flavor profile is similar to the nose. It is a smoky oak influenced ripe black plum and pomegranate with notes of strawberry. We also detected hints of black licorice, cured meat and stony minerality in the background. The finish is dry and its flavors and medium dusty tannins stick around for a while. This interesting wine will pair well with a duck confit crostini appetizer with a parsnip puree and fig or with Swedish meatballs. Enjoy – Ken & Mark

Winemaker Notes: It almost seems that the wine takes its ruby-purple color from the red sand of these Nero d'Avola and Frappato vines. The aromas of ripe black cherry with that of cardamom, vanilla and cinnamon. The tannin is mature, soft, and rounded. It dissolves in the mouth thanks to the incredible sweetness of the fruit. The oriental spices combine with the complex flavors of smoked pancetta, cooked must, marjoram and prickly pear. Extraordinary with roast pork chops and well as with Asian style spicy fish.
