Wine Review: This very light red colored Nerello Mascalese from Planeta opens with a pleasant bouquet of red plum and red raspberry with additional hints of crushed stone dust, faint new leather, strawberry and black cherry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied and balanced. The flavor profile is a mineral influenced red plum with notes of strawberry and old oak. I also detected hints of oregano and bay leaf. The finish is dry and its flavors and moderate tannins are nicely prolonged. This Nerello would pair well with veal marsala. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: Vanilla, sour cherry, wild strawberry, a very clean floral effect. In the mouth substantial but smooth. Very expressive fruit with more complex aromatic elements of undergrowth, myrtle and oriental spices. IT unexpectedly transforms into a champion of drinkable red wine with marked savory flavor and a tasting profile produced by a ferrous touch, rhubarb and very evident black pepper. A wine for everyday drinking. Its adaptability allows it to pair well with a simple a tomato based pasta dish to more complex dishes with meat mixed in.
