Wine Review: This slightly opaque and dark ruby colored Syrah from Qupe is Old World in style and very nice. Also don’t let the vintage fool you, this was held back and recently released. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced and savory. The flavor profile is a smoky cedar infused red cherry with notes of minerality. It is made very much with a true Rhone style in mind. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins stick around for a while. I would suggest pairing this tasty Syrah with beef bourguignon. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: This is textbook Bien Nacido Hillside Syrah showing spicy, savory aromatics with a nice dollop of toasty mocha from the oak. It is deeply colored with well integrated flavors of blueberries, cola and hints of black pepper. The acidity is in good balance and the palate is plush. This wine shows pretty well now but, will easily reward 10-15 years of bottle ageing.
