Wine Review: This pale purple colored Zinfandel from Rockpile opens with a boysenberry and moist pipe tobacco bouquet with hints of black licorice, red plum and smoky oak. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied, balanced and smooth. The flavor profile is gentle black cherry cordial and black raspberry blend with notes of cinnamon and black tea. We also detected hints of spice cake, gentle oak, and a lingering Canada wintergreen mint. The finish is dry and its flavors and fine tannins drift away nicely. The Panel would pair this Zin with Theresa’s meatloaf or duck confit. Enjoy – KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: Our 2018 Rockpile Ridge Zinfandel carries all of the signature aromas expected from Zinfandel grown in Rockpile: candied red fruits; cocoa shavings with hints of dried flowers and herbs; leather and earthen dust. A smooth, inviting entry with black fruits retreats to mineral and sweet baking spices. That's followed by a full-bodied, chewy texture with ripe tannins and great freshness, culminating in a long and layered finish. This energetic Zinfandel would benefit from at least 1-2 years of bottle age. Enjoy over the next 10-12 years.
