Wine Review: This cloudy and deep purple colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Rockpile opens with a toasted oak and blueberry bouquet with hints of toffee, black plum, and violets. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, lush, bright, and fresh. The flavor profile is a marionberry, red plum, and stone dust blend with notes of dark cherry, red licorice, and mocha. We also detected hints of black tea, oak, and cinnamon. It is very complex. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and its polished and dusty tannins build-up and last for quite some time. This wine benefits from some aeration. We would decant this Cab for quite some time to bring out its best in the near term. Then we would certainly drink this Cab on its own. With food, we would pair it with a ribeye steak. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: Our Rockpile Cabernet is one of these luscious wines. Though initially shy on the nose, aromas of ripe black cherry, loganberry and black cassis emerge. And with further aeration, beautiful undertones of shaved cocoa and vanilla pod become apparent, as well as swirls of meaty and savory star of anise and sweet woodsmoke. Its youthful and energetic entry leads to the expected full-bodied expression of a Rockpile Cabernet. This vintage also has firm yet velvety tannins, concluding in a superb multi-layered finish with candied dark fruit that's seductive and even more rewarding as it opens further in your glass. Enjoy it over the next 12+ years.
