Wine Review: This Pinotage from Simonsig is deep ruby red in color. It opens with aromas of red cherry and black pepper with hints of cigar box, wood chips and tobacco. On the palate, it is medium bodied and juicy. The flavor profile is initially ripe strawberry that quickly dissipated to black plum. I also picked up some hints of black pepper, cooking spices and light oak. The finish presented fine tannins that had a drying effect and lasted for a while. There was also some slight heat that also showed up at the end as well, but it barely detracted. Overall, I found this Pinotage to be very pleasant and I would pair it with a hearty beef stew or Silver Palate's Irish lamb stew. – Dave

Winemaker Notes: This vivid Pinotage with a bright red color displays aromas of red cherries and blueberry compote on the nose - an explosion of fruit and perfume. The palate further unveils depth of fruit with layers of ripe strawberry and plum. This wine is concentrated, yet fresh and elegant with delicate tannins. Enjoy with hearty pastas, game dishes such as ostrich steak and of course a traditional South African Braai.
