Wine Review: This opaque and deep purple colored Late Bottled Vintage Port from Taylor Fladgate opens with a mild black currant and dark chocolate bouquet with hints of cassis and black licorice. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is round and zesty. The flavor profile is a stewed black plum and dark chocolate blend with notes of molasses and black licorice. We also detected hints of black cherry and orange zest. The finish is dry, and its flavors and acidity are brief. We would enjoy this port on its own. Some said with a cigar. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: Taylor Fladgate were pioneers of the LBV category, developed to satisfy the demand for a high quality ready-to-drink alternative to Vintage Port for everyday consumption. Unlike Vintage Port, which is bottled after only two years in wood and ages in bottle, LBV is bottled after four to six years and is ready to drink when bottled. The 2020 LBV is deep purple with a ruby red rim. The nose is refined and complex, revealing multiple layers of aroma. A fine blend of wild strawberry, cassis, raspberry and plum provides the base for the elegant floral scents, hints of licorice and rock rose. The palate is voluptuous, supported by tense linear tannins and clean, crisp flavors of damsons and plums which continue into the long finish. Excellent with fully flavored cheeses, especially blue cheeses such as Stilton or Roquefort. It is also delicious with desserts made with chocolate.
