Wine Review: This dark red colored Italian red blend from Tenuta San Guido opens with a black cherry, pine resin, and leather bouquet with hints of blackberry and dried herbs. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, very smooth, and seamless. But yet, it’s robust. The flavor profile is a blackberry and cedar blend with notes of graphite and black cherry. We also detected hints of dried herbs, tart red plum, and a touch of vanilla at the end. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and well-managed dusty tannins build-up for a bit before drifting away nicely. This red blend benefits from a little aeration before pairing it with a grilled hanger steak. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: This vintage is a bit closed on the nose at a young age, it needs to breathe in the glass to reach its rich aromatic complexity. It recalls the Mediterranean scrub and its essences, strawberry tree, juniper but also earthy and humus notes. Its complex nuances identify its belonging to the terroir of origin. In the mouth the tannins are perfectly integrated, and their maturity accompanies the natural length of the wine on the palate, where freshness and depth stay in the foreground. Excellent salinity, not intrusive, which gives good length and persistence to the nose. Pair with Bolognese and other meat sauce pastas, grilled pork and beef, and roasts.
