Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Petite Sirah from VGS won our recent Petite Sirah blind tasting. This wine opens with a pencil lead and blackberry bouquet with some notes of black raspberry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, smooth and supple. The flavor profile is a delicious blueberry with notes of dark chocolate and oak. The finish is chewy and its tannins build-up and last for quite a while. The Panel suggested enjoying this Petite Sirah gem on its own by the fireplace. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: The dark, inky color may mislead you! Oh yes, the wine is concentrated and dense but it is not as blockbuster and tannic as the color might let you think. The wine has a very intense and expressive nose, rich, deep, going and going. It is loaded with ripe dark fruits – boysenberry, black cherry and plums – with soft tones of vanilla, cedar and a nice earthiness. It is really a nice, well integrated bouquet. The body weight and bright acidity immediately attacks the palate and you feel the concentration of flavors. Then you go through layers after layers delivering the ripe black fruits, fresh herbs and spicy black pepper flavors. The finish is long and firm with a strong, lasting tannic structure, ensuring a long life for this often-misunderstood wine. One thing is for certain … this "Petite" definitely is not very "petite."
