Wine Review: This slightly hazy and medium purple colored Syrah from VGS opens with a cocoa and blueberry bouquet with hints of peat, dried strawberry, and dried thyme. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and lush with some very nice tension. The flavor profile is a stony minerality and blackberry blend with notes of cured meat and dried strawberry. We also detected hints of smoky oak, tobacco, and cocoa dust. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and well-managed moderate dusty tannins linger and last for a while. We would pair this Syrah with ribeye steak or with a Hungarian beef goulash.
