Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Areni comes from Armenia. It opens with a mild red cherry and cinnamon bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and a little savory. The flavor profile is red plum and oak blend with notes of mild strawberry. I also detected hints of red cherry and gentle stony minerality. The finish is dry and its mild tannins drift away nicely. This wine reminds me a of very nice Pinot Noir. If you want to try something new, give this Areni a try. I would pair it with coq au vin. Winemaker Notes: The 2017 Areni captivates with aromas of dark fruits, muddled strawberry and freshly cracked black pepper. The palate gives way to a bright, fresh fruit expression, revealing a firm tannic structure and finishing with a pleasantly refreshing acidity.
