Wine Review: This intriguing, dry red from the Vayots Dzor region of Armenia is made with indigenous Areni (90%) and Kakhet (10%) grapes. It is a deep ruby color with an evolving bouquet of dried cherries, red raspberries, raisins, dried apricots, pomegranate, walnuts, smoke, roses, and iris. On the palate, it is medium bodied with integrated medium-plus acidity. The mouthfeel is round and very smooth. I found it to be well made, juicy, balanced, layered, and fruit focused. The flavors are a complex blend of blueberry, lingonberry, bramble, oolong tea, punky cedar, black pepper, and minerality along with notes of pomegranate, stewed plum, licorice, and chocolate. There are managed dusty tannins in the spicy and very long finish. Serve with an artfully curated charcuterie board. - Mark

Winemaker Notes: Displaying a ruby garnet hue, the wine opens with complex and expressive aromas of strawberry, pomegranate, dark cherries layered with notes of fresh violet, rose petal, and baking spice. Medium-bodied with bright yet well-integrated acidity, supported by silky but firm tannins. Clean, persistent, and elegantly spicy, the wine’s fruity core lingers alongside accents of earthy minerality, culminating in a lengthy finish.
