Wine Review: This clear and medium purple colored Zinfandel from Robert Biale opens with a sage and cranberry bouquet with hints of orange peel and raspberry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is smooth, seamless, zesty, and mouthwatering. The flavor profile is an oak and gentle blackberry blend with notes of cinnamon and black licorice. We also detected hints of stony minerality and pomegranate. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and tingly tannins are nicely sustained. We would pair this Zin with sweat Italian sausage. Enjoy – KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: Generous aromas of bramble, plum, and bay leaf on the nose. The palate is vibrant and expansive, layered with blackberry, orange peel, pomegranate, thyme, and warm baking spices. Balanced acidity and fine-grained tannins frame the 2024 Black Chicken, carrying it through a long, resonant finish.

Winemaker Interview Series – Stephen Cruzan of Lasseter – April 2026

On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview Stephen Cruzan again. However, this time Stephen is at a new winery. We interviewed Stephen in July of 2023 when he was the winemaker at Titus. Now Stephen is the winemaker for Lasseter. During the interview we covered three white wines. A 2023 Sauvignon Blanc, a 2023 Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon blend, and a 2023 Chardonnay. On the red side we covered a 2021 Merlot, a 2023 Malbec, a 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, and finally their 2021 and 2023 Syrah’s from Moon Mountain. On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, we interviewed Melissa Stackhouse once again. Melissa is the Winemaker at Dutton Goldfield.
