Wine Review: This deep purple colored Petite Verdot based blend from Jefferson Vineyards opens with an inviting black cherry and violet bouquet with hints of boysenberry and espresso. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, smooth, and very approachable. The flavor profile is a black cherry and black plum blend with notes of nutmeg and crispy bacon. I also detected hints of currant, black pepper, and a touch of stone dust. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity and well-managed medium tannins linger nicely. This red blend went perfectly with my beef tips with mushroom gravy. Enjoy - Ken

A Visit To Virginia Wine Country – Fall 2026

The fall is a perfect time to plan a visit to Virginia Wine country. Ken and the KWG Tasting Panel have been covering the winning wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup for years. Recently, our coverage has expanded beyond just the Governor’s Cup winners. Ken has been so impressed with Virginia wines that Theresa and he visited some wineries in the Charlottesville region in October of 2024. We highly recommend that you check out the six Virginia wineries in this post. We will start from the south near Charlottesville in the Monticello AVA and make our way north. Read This Blog Post
