Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Patent opens with a black tea and pencil lead bouquet with hints of new leather, dark chocolate, and blackberry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, rich, and dense. The flavor profile is a mild blackberry and graphite blend with notes of vanilla and cassis. I also detected hints of black Twizzler and black tea. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and well-managed dusty tannins drift away nicely. I would pair this Cab with a porterhouse steak. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: After 30 months in barrel, this wine has a rich garnet color, and classic Cabernet aromas with leather, cocoa, and spice. With touches of chestnut and nutmeg, it comes off clean. It is expressive, juicy, with black fruit, cassis, Chinese five spice, and forest floor flavors. It is full bodied with moderate acidity, subtle oak, velvety texture, and medium tannin. Will develop nicely with age. Only 350 cases will be produced.

Winemaker Interview Series – Brian Pruett – Dry Creek Vineyard – Feb 2026

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, we interviewed Brian Pruett. Brian is the winemaker at Dry Creek Vineyard. We covered eight wines during the visit. We started with Chenin Blanc and a single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, both from the 2024 vintage. Then we tried three single-vineyard and one historic-field-blend Zinfandel from the 2022 vintage. As you will recall, we really liked 2022 as a Zinfandel vintage. Finally, we wrapped up with their 2021 Red Blend and their flagship Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2022 vintage. It was a great tasting and a lot of fun. In this post, you can learn what we learned about Brian and the history of the winery and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines.
