Wine Review: This almost clear colored Sauvignon Blanc from Merry Edwards is excellent and a top performer in our blind tasting. It opens with a shy grapefruit pith and ripe Bartlett pear bouquet with hints of jasmine, guava, and pineapple. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, very smooth, and creamy. The flavor profile is a tasty ripe pear and passion fruit blend with notes of ruby grapefruit and papaya. We also detected hints of oak and green apple. The finish is dry, and its flavors and acidity drift away nicely. We would enjoy this terrific Sauvignon Blanc on its own. With food we would pair it with steamed mussels. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: Our Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc has become a popular success because of the unique way it is made. Winemaker Heidi von der Mehden uses a blend of Shenandoah and Sauvignon Musqué clones of Sauvignon Blanc to achieve the perfect blend of flavors and aromatics. She employs barrel fermentation in French oak and lees-stirring regimes for creamy texture. In 2024, the result is a luscious wine with tropical floral aromas, and notes of sweet grapefruit, orange blossoms, and honeydew melon. The entry is juicy, and it’s refreshing on the palate. Touches of citrus, vanilla, and fresh cut apples linger on the finish.

Winemaker Interview Series – Brian Pruett – Dry Creek Vineyard – Feb 2026

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, we interviewed Brian Pruett. Brian is the winemaker at Dry Creek Vineyard. We covered eight wines during the visit. We started with Chenin Blanc and a single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, both from the 2024 vintage. Then we tried three single-vineyard and one historic-field-blend Zinfandel from the 2022 vintage. As you will recall, we really liked 2022 as a Zinfandel vintage. Finally, we wrapped up with their 2021 Red Blend and their flagship Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2022 vintage. It was a great tasting and a lot of fun. In this post, you can learn what we learned about Brian and the history of the winery and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines.
