Wine Review: This deep purple colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Cakebread opens with a faint blackberry bouquet with hints of boysenberry, stone dust, and eucalyptus. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, very smooth, and seamless. The flavor profile is a cassis and oolong tea blend with notes of oak and green olive. We also detected hints of stone dust, cinnamon, and dried currant. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and moderate refined dusty tannins are nicely sustained. We would pair this versatile Cab with a filet mignon. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: Rich aromas of black cherry, blackberry, dried sage, mocha, and warm baking spice. The palate delivers layers of cherry preserves and ripe blackberry, accented by hints of dried herbs and anise. This wine is full bodied with integrated tannins and a long, refined finish layered with dark berry, stone fruit, graphite, dark chocolate, and baking spice.

A Visit To Virginia Wine Country – Fall 2026

The fall is a perfect time to plan a visit to Virginia Wine country. Ken and the KWG Tasting Panel have been covering the winning wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup for years. Winemaker Interview Series - Mike Kobler of Kobler Estate Winery – July 2026

On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview Mike Kobler. Mike is the winemaker at Kobler Estate Winery. During the interview, we covered two 2024 rosé wines, one made from Pinot Noir and one made from Syrah. We also covered a 2023 and a 2024 Viognier from the Russian River Valley.
