Wine Review: This clear and dark red colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Duncan Peak opens with a graphite and black cherry bouquet with hints of cassis and oak. On the palate, this wine is medium minus bodied with gentle mild acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, very smooth, seamless, and delicate. The flavor profile is a mild black cherry and stone dust blend with notes of blueberry. I also detected hints of acai berry, vanilla, and cola. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and fine tannins linger nicely. I would pair this delicate Cab in the near term with filet mignon. Enjoy – Ken

Winemaker Notes: Duncan Peak Vineyard's "Chronicle Reserve" single-vineyard blend is ready to drink upon opening. With its lower alcohol content, rich fruitiness, and perfectly balanced acidity, this wine is exceptionally easy to enjoy. This wine is elegant and appealing, boasting an attractive bouquet of floral notes and red fruits such as raspberry, red cherry, and strawberry. It also features an undertone of vanilla, minty herbs, and blueberries, with hints of baking spice and sweet tobacco. Soft tannins and acidity make it juicy and approachable, truly reflecting its cool climate origin. The wine starts with a bright acidity and fresh fruit flavors, but it soon mellows out, transitioning into sweet tobacco and jammy tones towards the finish. It's pleasant and elegant, with a smooth and layered texture.

Winemaker Interview Series – Brian Pruett – Dry Creek Vineyard – Feb 2026

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, we interviewed Brian Pruett. Brian is the winemaker at Dry Creek Vineyard. We covered eight wines during the visit. We started with Chenin Blanc and a single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, both from the 2024 vintage. Then we tried three single-vineyard and one historic-field-blend Zinfandel from the 2022 vintage. As you will recall, we really liked 2022 as a Zinfandel vintage. Finally, we wrapped up with their 2021 Red Blend and their flagship Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2022 vintage. It was a great tasting and a lot of fun. In this post, you can learn what we learned about Brian and the history of the winery and read our reviews of all of these impressive wines.
