Wine Review: This hazy and deep purple colored Cabernet Sauvignon based blend from Washington state opens with a blueberry and clay bouquet with hints of cedar, black licorice, and forest floor. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, smooth, and seamless. The flavor profile is a gentle blackberry and graphite blend with notes red currant. We also detected hints of oolong tea and pomegranate. The refined dry and dusty tannins drift away nicely on the finish. We would pair this food friendly and versatile wine with lamb stew or shepherd's pie. Enjoy - KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: Deep ruby red color, caramel/honeyed aroma with chestnut, pencil shavings, and fresh vanilla bean. Initial muscular taste turns into a balanced, mouth coating continuum of dark fruits, black cherry, and espresso. Long pleasing impression. Try with pastas or even pizza.

A Visit To Virginia Wine Country – Fall 2026

The fall is a perfect time to plan a visit to Virginia Wine country. Ken and the KWG Tasting Panel have been covering the winning wines from the Virginia Governor’s Cup for years. Recently, our coverage has expanded beyond just the Governor’s Cup winners. Ken has been so impressed with Virginia wines that Theresa and he visited some wineries in the Charlottesville region in October of 2024. We highly recommend that you check out the six Virginia wineries in this post. We will start from the south near Charlottesville in the Monticello AVA and make our way north. Read This Blog Post
