Wine Review: This clear and medium yellow colored Chardonnay from Calera is very good and was well received by all that tried it. It opens with a reserved apple and pineapple bouquet with a hint of oak. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and savory. The flavor profile is a ripe pear and almond blend with notes of quince and gentle oak. We also detected hints of Werther’s Original and pineapple. The finish is dry, and its flavors and acidity drift away nicely. We would pair this tasty Chard with pasta carbonara. Enjoy – KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: Impeccably balanced, this Chardonnay reflects its cool-climate coastal roots with aromas of honeydew melon, lemongrass, and delicate brioche. On the palate, vibrant Meyer lemon and a hint of papaya are elevated by bright acidity, with notes of flint and baking spice delivering focus and energy to a crisp, refreshing finish.

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, we had the opportunity to interview Jeff Gaffner again. Jeff is the winemaker and owner of Saxon Brown Wines. During the interview, we covered four single-vineyard 2023 Chardonnays, three Pinot Noirs, a cuvee, and two single-vineyard offerings, also from the 2023 vintage. We wrapped up the tasting with a 2023 Zinfandel.
